Privacy Policy

Overview

Coach Kai ("we," "us," "the app") is an iOS app that provides AI-assisted workout coaching and social accountability features. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We do not sell your data, and we do not use your health data for advertising.

Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information, all tied to the account you create:

• Account information — your email address (or, if you use Sign in with Apple, the identifier and name Apple provides), a username, and a password (stored securely by our authentication provider, never in plain text).
• Health & fitness data — with your permission, workouts, runs, distance, duration, and calories from Apple Health, plus any body metrics (weight, BMI, body fat percentage) you choose to log.
• Workout content — exercises, sets, saved workout templates, and conversations with Kai (our AI coach), used to build and remember your training.
• Social content — friend connections, activity you share with friends, direct messages, and profile details you add (display name, bio, profile photo).
• Usage and device information — basic technical data (like a push notification device token) needed to operate the app.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to operate and improve Coach Kai: to power Kai's coaching and conversation, to build your calendar and workout history, to show your activity to friends you've connected with, and to send you notifications you've opted into (like a nudge from a friend, or a reminder to keep your streak alive).

Health Data (Apple HealthKit)

If you grant permission, Coach Kai reads workout data from Apple Health so your activity shows up automatically. We do not write data back to Health beyond what you explicitly log in the app. Health data is never used for advertising, marketing, or sold to data brokers or any third party, and is only used to power your own coaching experience and — only if you choose to share it — a summary visible to friends you've connected with.

Sharing With Friends

Coach Kai is a social app — friends you've connected with can see your completed workouts and activity by default. Several categories of information are private by default and only visible to friends if you explicitly turn them on in Settings: body metrics, what Kai has learned about you ("Kai Knows"), and your weekly activity chart. You can turn any of these on or off at any time.

Third-Party Services

We use a small number of trusted service providers to operate the app, each only processing the data necessary to provide their service:

• Supabase — our backend provider, handling account authentication, database storage, and file storage (like profile photos).
• Anthropic — powers Kai, our AI coach. Messages you send to Kai are processed by Anthropic's Claude API to generate a response.
• Apple — provides Sign in with Apple, Apple Health integration, and push notification delivery.

Data Retention & Deletion

You can permanently delete your account at any time from Settings. Deleting your account removes your profile, workout history, chat history, friend connections, and photos — this action cannot be undone.

Children's Privacy

Coach Kai is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Your Choices

You control what's shared with friends via the sharing toggles in Settings, and you can edit or delete your account information at any time from within the app. To request any other change or ask a question about your data, contact us below.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
